Since 1992, this humble Eat In and Take Out Fish restaurant, located in the heart of Surry Hills, has seen the Sydney dining scene evolve drastically over the years. Standing tall and proud Mohr Fish has weathered the test of times and remained true to its philosophy of offering a wonderful variety of seafood served up at its freshest, tastiest and simplest, like a home cooked meal when you don’t feel like cooking.
With a decor that is unpretentious and inviting, this tiny corner restaurant with sea green and powder blues, cream tiles, high tables and stools, shopfront windows and a stainless steel counter that you can eat at, is reminiscient of a retro milkbar or old-english seaside fish and chip shop. The sense of nostalgia and intimacy, only seating a maximum of 30 people, has made Mohr Fish a constant favourite with locals and theatre goers alike ensuring that no matter who you are or what you do you are welcome to share the ‘fruits of the sea’ at Mohr Fish.
This authenticity and passion for offering simple, fresh, honest seafood to diners comes from chef/owner Hans Mohr who to this day goes to the Sydney Seafood and Flemington markets every week to hand-pick and ensure all of Mohr Fish’s produce is seasonal and of the highest quality. Having trained in, starting from the age of 14, six star establishments throughout Germany and Switzerland, Hans came to Australia in 1967 with a discipline and passion for making the produce shine simply in all his food. This is evident in all the food offered in the Eat In and Take Out menus. There is a complete harmony and balance in all the dishes without any of the food being over complicated or intimidating.
